Value Added Services

USSD Gateway
USSD Gateway enables mobile operators to offer various call related services, value added services and customer care services using USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) technology as data bearer. It allows sending and receiving information messages over GSM radio signaling channels.

Due to the simplicity of service usage and network cost efficiency, USSD has become more popular in recent years and created an alternative way to SMS, IVR, WAP and SIM tool kit based services.

USSD service users do not need to access any phone specific menu; they simply enter the required USSD command by dialing service digits. USSD commands are then routed the home mobile network’s HLR, which allows users to access these services and while they are roaming in the same way as in home network.

Once the user accesses a USSD application, a session is established in the USSD Gateway and this session remains open until it is terminated by the user or application side. This allows real-time fast and interactive messaging communication between user and USSD application.

USSD can be easily utilized for simple customer care services. It is more efficient than IVR solutions as it does not occupy voice channels. It is also a fast and user-friendly alternative for WAP for simple content delivery and information services. In order to be able to deliver content services over WAP, there is a need for immense effort for WAP development. However, USSD services require less effort for service creation. In addition, USSD services can be accessed faster through the USSD menu compared to browsers based on the SIM tool kit applications. As the menus are dynamic, there is no need to reconfigure subscriber’s SIM cards.
By using USSD Gateway, following service scenarios can be realized,
USSD credit recharge and query services:
Using a service code, the prepaid balance is retrieved from a pre-paid system or the balance is updated by sending the code on a scratch/voucher card.
USSD Callback Scenario:
A roaming call is set-up from the subscriber's home network based on USSD trigger. Oksijen Call Back Server is used to set up the outgoing call from home network.
USSD Portal Services:
USSD Gateway supports the display of USSD service menus which enables service providers to offer variety of content services. EasyBridge VAS Delivery Platform is used to provide service creation and deployment utility.
Customer Care and Support Services:
For simple customer care and support services, USSD might fit better than IVR solutions. IVR systems are inconvenient as it takes too much time to deal with simple requests and as they use expensive voice channels. USSD menu browsing can be an ideal alternative for operators to gain operational efficiency in their customer services with subscribers able to resolve day-to-day requests themselves.
